India to assume the presidency of the UNSC
T. S. Tirumurti, Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations India joined the UNSC in January 2021 for a two-year term as one of the 10 rotating non-permanent members. The ten elected or non-permanent members have a tenure of two years. At present, the non-permanent members are Estonia, India, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico, Niger, Norway, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Tunisia and Vietnam . Its previous terms were 1950-1951, 1967-1968, 1972-1973, 1977-1978, 1984-1985 , 1991-1992 and 2011-12 This is India's tenth tenure to assume the presidency of the United Nations Security Council for the month of August on Sunday. The presidency of the Council is held by each of the members in turn for one month, following the English alphabetical order of the member states' names.
